Virginia McDaniel will discuss her studies in the Ouachita National Forest with burning and thinning and its impacts on the overstory, midstory, herbaceous richness, ground layer cover diversity, wildlife, and more.

Virginia McDaniel is the Acting Forest Botanist & Ecologist with USDA’s Ouachita National Forest. Her current research includes Fuel consumption during prescribed fires; the Effect of prescribed fire on the ecological communities of the Interior Highlands; the Effect of lightning ignition fires on tree mortality during drought; & Herbaceous flora of pine woodland communities.
